Logos School of Music performs at the Romanian Heritage Center

Romanian Library and Cultural Center, Niles, IL will host a concert of Classical music arranged and directed by Stelian Aioanei, founder and director of Logos School of Music (LSM), in Niles, IL, Friday, November 12.

The Cultural Center is part of the non-profit organization American-Romanian Network Inc., founded by Steven Bonica in 1995. “Our purpose is to promote the Romanian traditions and culture and to keep the Romanian language alive,” says Bonica.

The concert is part of a social event that is design to gather Romanians from Chicago area to a black-tie dinner of cultural interaction. “The event is a ‘thank you’ to the people that supported the Romanian Cultural Center and who made possible our foundation,” says Bonica.
Logos School of Music has open in the Spring of 2006, as part of the Logos Christian Academy, previously known as Norwood Park Christian School. “Our purpose is to help anyone achieve the dream of pursuing a professional music career,” says Aioanei.

The school began with 15 students and 7 faculty members and now it has 70 students and more than 20 music instructors. The majority of the student body consists of students in elementary level to high school level.

Many of the instructors received their music degrees from local institutions such as DePaul University, Northwestern University, or Northern Illinois University, and some are part of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Choir. Some Logos Christian Academy students pursued music careers and after finishing college went back to teach at the LSM.

This is the case of Marius Olariu, a former student at Logos Christian Academy, who after graduating from DePaul School of Music, went back to teach music at the Logos School of Music. “I am proud to teach at the school, because I think it is a remarkable realization for the Chicago-area Romanians and also for the people living around the school who bring their kids to learn music here. Our students rage between 3 and 45 years old,” says Olariu.

The Logos School of Music is for anybody who wants to learn music, not just for the students enrolled at the Logos Christian Academy. “This school is blessed to have facilities that accommodate first class musical activities and learning,” says Bonica, who has one daughter enrolled at the school and one that just graduated.

Logos School of Music has a Symphony Orchestra composed of teachers and advanced students and several small ensembles which include string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, as well as the school choir.

They have won different music competitions including Illinois grade school of music association competition and Evanston Northshore concert band competition and performed at Romanian Chamber of Commerce, Romanian local Churches works of Vivaldi, Mozart, and Bach.

Besides the Friday night concert, which will feature a strains ensemble, made of 8 young musicians, the Logos School of Music students are preparing their annual Christmas carols concerts on December 11, at the Romanian Baptist Church in Des Plaines, IL.

Romanian Heritage Festival

In the past, the Romanian Cultural Center hosted art exhibitions, official dinners, and most of the social events that take place in the community. Also, the American-Romanian Network is the organizer of the Romanian Heritage Festival, an annual festival with live Romanian bands (usually brought from Romania) traditional food and folklore dance.
